Cleaning Questions? Ask the Doc!
Cleaning Questions
Episode 52
What are YOUR cleaning questions? This podcast is officially 1 year old, today! Our thanks to our followers and listeners. We want to hear from you.
Commercial Cleaning Questions
Commercial cleaning and building services can create a LOT of questions. Because that’s the case, we’ve launched a new form where we’ll accept questions from our listeners.
Cleaning Business Start Ups
This is where many businesses launch and fail. We DO have several podcasts on this topic. You’re also welcome to submit your question to The Doc. With decades of experience in the cleaning world, he’s seen the good, the bad and the ugly.
Front-Line Cleaner Training
A lot of consumer product marketing is geared to make cleaning look simple. And depending on HOW you intend to clean, it might be. In your own home or living space, you can clean as you see fit. But once cleaning becomes your work, you are responsible to know what works and what doesn’t. Training is critical.
Cleaning Business Consulting
This set of questions and services touches everything else we do. The challenges of owning a cleaning company are many. If you’ve survived your first year of business and want to know what to do next. This is a good place to start. If you’ve survived your 5th year in business, congratulations! Maybe you now want to better manage staff and payment terms. Our Cleaning Consulting services is still a good place to start.
Human Resources
We are NOT an HR company. But we do lead our cleaning team, management team and vendors. Commercial cleaning companies operate-and-close balanced on the work of their teams. We provide our experience AND connections to the HR Professionals who make that part of our business possible.
Sales
It’s what every commercial cleaning company wants. Making the Sales arm of your business function drives every other opportunity. Yes, you must perform the cleaning services well. Yes, your billing and collections must operate in a timely fashion. And consistent sales will provide those opportunities.
Operations
This is the work behind the cleaning service. Managing customer communications; Managing staff communications; Hiring; Vendor & Supply lines; Payables & Receivables.
Job Specing & Quoting
Closing deals may bring you a sense of accomplishment or dread. The gap between those is usually knowing that your cleaning business will make a profit. A lot of cleaning companies have closed because they priced themselves out of business. Don’t be one of those.
Health
The cleaning industry uses and applied chemicals every day. Since we cannot change that, we should embrace doing our work in a safe and productive manner. We have many books on best practices and The Doc has contributed to many of these out in the marketplace, today.
Indoor Air Quality
You can choose where to live and what to eat. But when you go to work, shop or play, you have no choice on what to breath. Safe product handling is part of our process. We also have connections to vendors with the sole focus of improving indoor air quality.

Joel, it’s a dirty world.
Joel
Someone’s got to clean it. Might as well be us. Let’s make some money.
Ray
Let’s do it. To our fellow cleaning company owners, frontline cleaners, people who just want to find out what’s going on out there. We are launching out a new form on the Doc site, specifically for this podcast. You are welcome to submit your questions, your head scratchers, your I’m not quite sure what to do with this. Even if you have a “When Employees Do Dumb Things” story, you may actually get a call from the doc.
Joel
I would appreciate it because my myself. I’ve been in this industry 42 years. And come January, I will own my own company for 12. I wish that there had been this type of a podcast that I could have gotten some base information, some guidance, some help to get me going in the right direction. I am reaching out to those that either own a business or it’s a small business or it’s even just an idea. Or maybe you are that front line employee that’s thinking, “I may want to do this one day”. I want to make this relevant to all of you, not just about my clients, my business, and the situations that have come up. I want to answer questions that you have that you want answered, that you can’t seem to find the answers anywhere that you’re turning. Because I want to help you. I want you to be successful. I want you to reach your dreams.
Ray
Joel, I want to include one other group in that. It’s one that you’ve already worked with on a regular basis. Managers who are heading up environmental services teams inside facilities. You’ve worked with a lot of facilities. You’ve worked with a lot of universities, school districts, and so those people, they face facilities challenges, staffing challenges. I bet they have questions, too.
Joel
I’m sure they do.
Ray
In the description below, you’ll find a link to that form. You can use that to ask technical HR questions, staffing questions, questions about running, owning, or starting your own cleaning business, and addressing the needs that running a division or team of environmental services can pose. You may even be dealing with a when employees do dumb things situation. If that’s the case, don’t be surprised if you get a call from the Doc. At Docs Facilities Consulting, our goal is Cleaning for Health and helping you be successful. We always appreciate a like and subscribe, and thank you.
